Sonic Bloom 2013

Sonic Bloom 2013 Website // Buy Tickets // Full Lineup

Okay, so I am here today to deliver the welcoming news of a beautiful festival, in the far away amazing world of Colorado. That festival would be Sonic Bloom, and while it may be a bit of a track for our Philadelphia readers, the festival represents an aspect of the electronic music that we don’t see a lot of representation for here in The City of Brotherly Love. The lineup displays a wide array of music that could be classified as anywhere from psy-trance, to dub, glitch-hop, electrofunk, simply bass, or just about anything else in that spectrum that comes to mind. The festival will be taking place from June 13th-16th this Summer, in it’s homespot of Shadow’s Ranch in Georgetown Colorado. With a whopping array of artists including Opiuo, VibeSquaD, Random Rab, Minnesota, The Polish Ambassador, Bluetech, Orchard Lounge, Phutureprimitive, TRUTH, Andreilien (previously known as Heyoka), ill.Gates, Wick-It the Instigator, Love & Light, Govinda, Thriftworks, Robotic Pirate Moneky, Unlimited Aspect (Unlimited Gravity and Project Aspect), Russ Liquid, Cry Wolf and still plenty more, this festival bleeds an amazing time. Just check out the 2012 festival recap below, as well as a featured playlist with music from artists exclusively on the 2013 lineup!! And be sure to hurry up because tickets are going fast!

Zomboy (feat. Lady Chann) – “Here to Stay” [Dubstep//Moombahcore]

Zomboy - Here to Stay

Zomboy‘s always crushing it, whether its behind the turntables or behind the production software. His last release was The Dead Symphonic EP before he came rampaging through SoundGarden Hall to bring in one epic Halloween for Philly. Now the UK producer and Never Say Die Records artist is back with a new single, featuring the vocals of Lady Chann, titled “Here to Stay”. It’s an upbeat, heavy-hitting moombahcore track, chocked full of that grimey Zomboy bass we all know and love. Enjoy!

2013 Festival Preview: Camp Bisco – Full Lineup Announcement!!

Camp Bisco 2013

Camp Bisco Website // Lineup // Buy Tickets

Easily one of the most premier festivals for the Northeast, Camp Bisco, curated of course by The Disco Biscuits, will return this year to Indian Lookout Country Club in beautiful upstate New York. The festival will take place from July 11th-13th. We were lucky enough to make it up to Camp last year for our first Bisco experience, and to say “pleased” would be a bit of an understatement. With two massive main stages, setup side by side for rapid change-off between acts, and two dance tents, the festival has more than enough to offer; not to mention the late night,, silent disco DJ tent as well. This year the festival promises to return with just as much force, as well as plenty of new surprises, and definitely plenty of smiling faces. The lineup this year is even more eclectic and jaw-dropping as ever, boasting jam bands STS9, Lotus, Umphrey’s McGee, The Werks, Twiddle and Zoogma (and yes of course The Biscuits); a few very impressive indie acts including Passion PitAnimal Collective and Dan Deacon; and of course a premier list of DJs and electronic acts including Bassnectar, Flux Pavilion, Boys Noize, UZ, Aeroplane, Baauer, Break Science, Cherub, Crizzly, Eskmo, Gramatik, Heroes + Villains, KOAN Sound, Manic Focus, Paper Diamond, Toro Y Moi, Wick-It the Instigator and lots more. This year looks to be an amazing year to spend a wonderful weekend in upstate New York; hope you’ll be camping with us!

2013 Festival Preview: Electric Forest – Full, Official Lineup Announcement!!

E Forest 2013

Last week in our festival preview we discussed one of the titans: Coachella. Well this week, we’ve got the lineup for another indisputably mighty name when it comes to the music festival world. Yes, I’m talking of course about Electric Forest, up in beautiful Rothbury, Michigan. The festival is put on each year by one of the oldest (and easily most classic) jam bands in the game: The String Cheese Incident. If you don’t know about these guys- especially if you enjoy jam music- you need to get out to a show; and The Forest is the perfect opportunity, offering a show from the Boulder, Colorado group all three nights of the festival. Not to mention an incredible supporting lineup, including Pretty Lights, Passion Pit, Knife Party, Lotus, Beats Antique, A-Trak, Grimes, Holy Ghost!, EOTO, Kill the Noise, Emancipator, Baauer, NOISIA, Michal Menert, Suckerpunch, Up Until Now, Moon Hooch, Helicopter Showdown, and yes, plenty more (not to mention that wonderful side not of “plus more to be announced”). I know we’re hoping to make this our first trip to the forest, and we certainly hope to see some friendly faces there!

Skrillex – Leaving EP (FREE DL!!) [Electronic//Bass]

Skrillex-Leaving-EP

It’s been a while now since the electro and dubstep king Skrillex has put out a full new release, but today he changed that tune with the release of his FREE new 3-track piece, the Leaving EP. We’re all used to some really heavy bass from Sonny at this point I think, but he delivers something a bit different on this. Now, don’t get me wrong; it’s plenty fast-paced and dancey, but not as much grimey bass as I’m used to from Skrillex. Of course, this really is the complete opposite of a bad thing, and I think this type of release is exactly what he needed. Let us know your thoughts; and as always, enjoy!!

AntiTrash Jack – The Regency EP [Dubstep//Glitch-Hop]

Over the passed couple years, we’ve seen the bass music genre cover just about every BPM and beat-style imaginable; from the throw-down slow beats of dubstep, to the fast-paced headbanging drum&bass and drumstep, to everything in between, including moombahcore and electro house. But with the recent influx of trap, a lot of artists are beginning to experiment with breakbeat rhythms, resulting in heavy bass glitch-hop a lot of the time. My own personal thoughts on this? It’s freaking amazing!! AntiTrash Jack just released his new The Regency EP through trusted name, Heavy Artillery Records, and it features a couple really great examples of this new trend. Enjoy!!

Excision: The Execution Tour – March 16th, 2012 in Philadelphia!! (FREE DLs!!)

Last year on the X Tour, Excision unleashed a hellish new stage setup and, more importantly, a ground-shaking 100,000 watt Pk sound system, with enough bass to shatter your ear drums. Now, after a slew of new releases, including his X-Rated: Remixes album, the Canadian destroyer of worlds is rounding up the troops to set off on tour again in the Winter/Spring of 2013. Along with him on tour, Excision will be bringing the mighty Paper Diamond and Vaski. We’ve witnessed both of these producers in action, Paper Diamond a few times, and Vaski just this Summer at the Big Dub Festival, where he headlined; and I can tell you right now, they both get the Funkadelphia stamp of approval. Of course we all know to expect mind-melting filth from Excision, but be sure to prepare yourselves for some incredible opening talent as well. It’s all going down here in Philadelphia on Saturday, March 16th; although, the location has yet to be announced. Prepare yourselves!!

ill.Gates – The Church of Bass EP (FREE DL!!) [Dubstep//Glitch-Hop]

ill.Gates has been absolutely relentless with the releases lately, which is probably a big reason why he’s embarking on The Church of Bass Tour (click for full tour dates) with Stephan Jacobs and Jay Fay. Well just yesterday he dropped another new release on us, specifically in promotion for the tour, called the Church of Bass EP. The album features five new bass-driven tracks, ranging from dubstep, to glitch-hop, to jungle and a little dash of this and that here and there. You can pick the entire thing up completely FREE too! Get to it.

The Church of Bass Tour will be stopping into The Blockley, with local support Dubsef on Sunday, December 9th!! — See Event Page HERE

Jack Deezl & Architekt – The Hallow End EP (FREE DL!!) [Electronic//Bass]

This passed weekend was Halloween weekend, with Wednesday being the true night of darkness. And just in time, Hurricane Sandy has rushed up on the East Coast to brush an extra wave of black, hellish clouds over the city. It couldn’t be a more appropriate time for two Philadelphia producers (two of my favorites, and definitely two of the most talented), Jack Deezl and Architekt, to unleash their latest release: The Hallow End EP. It’s got four brand new tracks from the two bass producers, including two collabs and a solo track from each artist. Each track has a pretty different feel, and this is by all means a “bass” EP, not a “dubstep” one, because the reality is the majority of the tracks on this release experiment across other genres. However, I’m definitely a sucker for the opening track, a heavy bass tune- possibly and probably the heaviest I’ve heard from these two- also titled “The Hallow End”. I’m just going to let you guys get to this one though. And remember, if you’re enjoying what you hear be sure to pick it up completely FREE on the Glitch Squad bandcamp!
