This is definitely a digression into something much more mellow and different then we’re used to. But London producer Jon Hopkins is impossible to ignore, with a deep beating, minimal style that takes his audiences on a journey with each and every track. With the announcement of his new album, Immunity, which will be happening June 4th. Jon Hopkins’ music is slow to build, but impossible to not be drawn into. With a dynamic array of constantly shifting, appearing and disappearing layers, he creates a musical canvas that simply begs your mind to become lost in. This new track, “Open Eye Signal” is our little glimpse into what the new album holds.

Empire of the Sun

This is a name I have actually been seeing on a surprisingly good amount of festival lineups this Summer: Empire of the Sun. I guess it makes good sense though considering they have officially announced the release of their full-length new album, Ice on the Dune, for June 18th this Summer. If you aren’t too familiar with the Australian electronic rock act, they got some talk going with their debut album Walking on a Dream in 2008, most notably their songs “Walking on a Dream” - which many of you would probably recognize as the sample from Wiz Khalifa‘s “The Thrill” – and “We Are the People”. I will have to also personally recommend “Half Mast”, my personal favorite from the first album. Empire of the Sun is also known for their great outfits, which they can be seen wearing in almost all their music videos as well as at each performance. As I said, this Summer they will be taking the stage alongside Passion Pit quite a few times, which I think is appropriate, giving I have always sort of seen Empire of the Sun as a Passion Pit and MGMT fusion. DYNOHUNTER is a group that is still rather new to me, but that being said, I’m getting myself acquainted rather rapidly. The three-piece jamtronica act gets my ears smiling and my feet kicking with each and every track. Their last release, the Pilgrimage EP, was a sure sign that these guys were to be kept an eye on. As a result, we have this fresh new track from the Colorado-based group. It’s called “Gotta Do Wit It” and is a energetic new nu-disco style track, still maintaining plenty of funk and jazz elements. The sax in this song goes off! And yes, it’s all yours for FREE!

Okay, so I am here today to deliver the welcoming news of a beautiful festival, in the far away amazing world of Colorado. That festival would be Sonic Bloom, and while it may be a bit of a track for our Philadelphia readers, the festival represents an aspect of the electronic music that we don’t see a lot of representation for here in The City of Brotherly Love. The lineup displays a wide array of music that could be classified as anywhere from psy-trance, to dub, glitch-hop, electrofunk, simply bass, or just about anything else in that spectrum that comes to mind. The festival will be taking place from June 13th-16th this Summer, in it’s homespot of Shadow’s Ranch in Georgetown Colorado. With a whopping array of artists including Opiuo, VibeSquaD, Random Rab, Minnesota, The Polish Ambassador, Bluetech, Orchard Lounge, Phutureprimitive, TRUTH, Andreilien (previously known as Heyoka), ill.Gates, Wick-It the Instigator, Love & Light, Govinda, Thriftworks, Robotic Pirate Moneky, Unlimited Aspect (Unlimited Gravity and Project Aspect), Russ Liquid, Cry Wolf and still plenty more, this festival bleeds an amazing time. Time to mellow out and enjoy some smooth beats. If you’re feeling that vibe, then Freddy Todd has definitely got you with his new album Moonflavours. It’s chocked full of laid-back, airy beats. And the music world is so gracious lately; this one’s up for FREE download as well! Freddy Todd has definitely showed off a lot of talent in the bass world, but he definitely shows off a new set of skills with this album, churning out glitchy, trip-hop tracks, which still maintain plenty of dub and bass elements. You definitely don’t want to pass this one up.

This is definitely some of the most exciting news we’ve had coming from the indie electronic music world in quite a while ago. Not too long ago, California producer and musician, Baths announced, in an interview with Pitchfork, that he had begun work on a followup to his inspirational first album Cerulean. Now we have the second track to be released from the album, “Ironworks”; a slow-paced glitchy track that remains loyal to Baths’ sound, while it also strays into some heavier instrumentation, most noticeably on the bass lines for this track. We’ve also included the first track, “Miasma Sky”, which was featured with the Pitchfork article, and shows off a more upbeat Baths style. Both tracks certainly bode well for the coming album!Web

Alright, here we go. It’s a brand new remix from West Coast friends ODESZA. These two absolutely lit up the world with their debut album, and with the encroaching festival season it looks like they’re getting ready to hit the road. But preparing for such doesn’t mean ODESZA doesn’t have time to get into the studio, so they threw together this fresh new remix for the fans to get our mouths watering even more to see them this Summer. So Space Jesus hits The Blockley tonight with his LIVE setup, along with Biodiesel and Greenhouse Lounge. The local producer and DJ has been lighting up crowds lately with his performances, but tonight Philly is the first to peek Jasha Tull’s live show. In celebration of the tour, he decided to kick the public a FREE track, most likely part of an upcoming new album, called “Moon Rock”.  It starts off with an upbeat almost electronica sound, but quickly delves into some electro house style dubbyness, with psychedelic synths, of course, melding across the track.

Alright so Philly produer <radioaddict> just dropped his new Clicks’n'Shit II EP on us today. A few days ago he flashed off the first track from the release, “Function”, and we were pleased to say the least; I hope you guys felt the same. This release features a lot of different, interesting electronic genres blending together, most prominently trip-hop and dubstep. Don’t think filth though, just some deep bassy wobbles haunt the backgrounds of these tracks, while heavy glitch and trip-hop rhythms take firm hold of the tracks’ foreground. There’s also a large amount of electronica influence, which brings a lot of energy to each track.

So we’ve been a bit off the radar over the weekend because we made the trek out to the Boombox Music Festival, which we’ll be bringing you guys an article for soon. But I’m also ready to launch an arsenal of fresh new music for you guys. I’d like to kick it off with a local producer, <radioaddict>. You might be familiar with his track “Shaku”, which was featured on Glitch Squad’s Compilation Vol. 1. Otherwise, you’re probably in for a pleasant surprise here, because this guy knows how to throw together a track. “Function” takes on a much different sound than the darker, more dubby and aggressive “Shaku”. Instead, it presents a chilled out hip-hop vibe, with a nice electronica overlay that somewhat reminds me of Ratatat. This is the first single off his upcoming Clicks’n'Shit II EP, to be released April 16th; so keep your eyes peeled! And for now, just enjoy - FREE download on this one too!
