So we just posted the Sonic Bloom 2013 lineup and festival announcement, and among their list of incredible artists is a man that has been doing up the breakbeat game for a long time now. I am of course referring to the great ill.Gates. The San Francisco native producer has done work with many incredible producers, including the mighty Bassnectar, as well as Beats Antique, Samples, Opiuo, Datsik and plenty more. I think that list of collaborations actually gives a good representation of ill.Gates’ versatility and production prowess. He covers anything from dubstep, to glitch-hop, to straight breakbeat, hip-hop beats, and just about anything in between. He’s giving away this new “Re:Mix:Tape” completely FREE, which is truly an anomaly as the mix is packed full of fresh, bassed-out tunes.
For anyone familiar with London act Mount Kimbie, the announcement of their new upcoming album Cold Spring Fault Less Youth to be released on May 27th is certainly exciting news. And if you aren’t familiar with the downtempo duo, then I’m sure these two new singles with get you excited. With a style that has been called many things, among them “post-dubstep”, “ambient”, and “minimal”, Mount Kimbie’s sound can be described best probably with the word “odd”. And when I say odd here, I mean delightfully odd. But hey, don’t take my word for it, let your ears make the decision. And don’t forget to take advantage of that FREE download!

It seems Figure is getting back to his hip-hop love a lot lately; with a remix of a Deltron 3030 track, followed by several collaborations with Del himself, and now this brand spankin’ new remix of an Aesop Rock track. This one comes on smooth, with an easy kicking beat and Aesop’s rhymes flowing effortlessly on top. But of course it’s still a Figure track, so be sure to count on one hard-hitting wall of bass, some epic beat adjustment, and one overall hell of a track. FREE as always from Figure. Enjoy!

We posted a real, real nice trap mix by Maskuerade not too long ago. Well, now we have an actual track from the California producer: a collaborative track between himself and another up and comer, DURD3N. Together these two have put together quite the hot hit. Trap’s been catching on, but there are still always going to be those artists that set themselves aside from the pack by not just doing what everyone else is doing, but by instead by constantly trying to set a new level of quality for their genre. This is what Maskuerade and DURD3N have done on this track; they didn’t just go with a cookie-cutter sound, they did some new and original. The even better news is that they’re giving it away to us FOR FREE! Enjoy!!

We’re a tad bit behind on this one, but better late than never; especially when it comes to some quality, local trap music. In this case, we’re talking the newest installment from DJ HadjiBeats, a four track, trap release called the It’s a Trap EP. A lot of people have been dropping some dope trap mixes, but what’s a lot less prominent are dope original trap tracks. I appreciate someone who throw down a dirty mix, but I also have a great appreciation for someone that can throw together some good production. This new one from DJ HadjiBeats showcases exactly that. If you’re looking for some good trap, look no further.

If you didn’t know this was coming, then frankly, I don’t know what planet you’re on. At this point, this was probably one of the most hyped releases of the Summer. TNGHT is Hudson Mohawke and Lunice, two extremely talented producers who came together to drop a 5-track self-titled, trap EP on us; and damn, is this dirty. I encourage you to get further excited as Lunice was just announced today to be appearing at the Philadelphia date for the Mad Decent Block Party! Now, we already dropped “Bugg’n” and “Higher Ground” on you guys, so far the two most successful songs from the album so far, but hey, that still leaves 3 BRAND NEW TRACKS of trap goodness!! And these guys aren’t messing around either; this is probably one of the most hearty full trap releases so far. Be sure to give it your full attention! Alright, I’m gonna stop yapping; enjoy!

What do you get when you put a UK glitch and bass sensation together with a one of Mad Decent‘s most talented up and coming trap producers? The answer is TNGHT, a new collaborative project between Warp artist Hudson Mohawke and trap prodigy Lunice. The two have just recently begun collaborating, although they already have announced their self-titled TNGHT EP, due to be released July 23rd in the United States. So far, this is the first track to be released from the album, and boy is it quite the tease. After hearing this track, I can’t wait to get my fingers on an entire EP from these two. Check it out.

Alright, let’s side step a little from the typical EDM scene and talk about a really cool artist doing work in the indie electronic scene. Flume is an Australia producer that’s really been doing a lot of cool things. His style reminds me a lot of many of the Ghostly International artists, such as Shigeto, Gold Panda, Tycho or even Mux Mool. If you enjoy the smooth sounds of some nice downtempo, glitched out music, or just some chill beats, Flume is definitely an artist to keep your eyes on.
The first track in his newest, it’s a remix of Ta-Ku‘s track “Higher” and features more of a hip-hop or just beat style. In addition to this new remix though, we’ve also decided to include his remix of “Zimbabwe” by New Navy. This second remix features a more ambient and downtempo sound; if you get the speakers way up it’s actually got a really deep bass like a lot of older dubstep tracks. Finally, we just had to throw in his debut four-track, self-titled Flume EP. Definitely my favorite track from the EP would have to be “Sleepless”. This is where we first heard of Flume, and thinking back it’s probably been almost a year. It’s been too long since I’ve been on Flume’s page, and I’m glad this new remix brought me back. This is definitely a guy to keep your eyes out for in the future. Enjoy!

This is by no means a new track, but it’s one that just necessitates being shared. Star Slinger is a UK producer that is absolutely killing the beat and IDM scenes. If you want to learn more about him or you’re just diggin’ this song, check out more of his tunes on his Artist Spotlight. This is probably my favorite Star Slinger track (and one of my favorite electronic tracks in general), which is probably why I feel it needs to be posted so strongly. Just make sure you give this one a listen and don’t let it slip by.

So I’m sure Linkin Park isn’t a name you were expecting to see show up on this blog. Well let’s clarify that this track comes from a Brookly, New York based trio of musicians that call themselves The Kickdrums. I actually heard of these guys a couple years ago, but haven’t really heard much since until this track popped up. Well I’m glad I decided to give it a listen cause it’s quite enjoyable. Now, this isn’t a typical track from us, so don’t get scared off when this track doesn’t start off with a crazy upbeat electro sound. I think some of you are going to be pleasantly surprised with this one, so if you like what you hear, be sure to check out more of The Kickdrums.
