Sonic Bloom 2013 Website // Buy Tickets // Full Lineup

Okay, so I am here today to deliver the welcoming news of a beautiful festival, in the far away amazing world of Colorado. That festival would be Sonic Bloom, and while it may be a bit of a track for our Philadelphia readers, the festival represents an aspect of the electronic music that we don’t see a lot of representation for here in The City of Brotherly Love. The lineup displays a wide array of music that could be classified as anywhere from psy-trance, to dub, glitch-hop, electrofunk, simply bass, or just about anything else in that spectrum that comes to mind. The festival will be taking place from June 13th-16th this Summer, in it’s homespot of Shadow’s Ranch in Georgetown Colorado. With a whopping array of artists including Opiuo, VibeSquaD, Random Rab, Minnesota, The Polish Ambassador, Bluetech, Orchard Lounge, Phutureprimitive, TRUTH, Andreilien (previously known as Heyoka), ill.Gates, Wick-It the Instigator, Love & Light, Govinda, Thriftworks, Robotic Pirate Moneky, Unlimited Aspect (Unlimited Gravity and Project Aspect), Russ Liquid, Cry Wolf and still plenty more, this festival bleeds an amazing time. Just check out the 2012 festival recap below, as well as a featured playlist with music from artists exclusively on the 2013 lineup!! And be sure to hurry up because tickets are going fast!

2013 Festival Preview: Camp Bisco – Full Lineup Announcement!!

Camp Bisco 2013

Camp Bisco Website // Lineup // Buy Tickets

Easily one of the most premier festivals for the Northeast, Camp Bisco, curated of course by The Disco Biscuits, will return this year to Indian Lookout Country Club in beautiful upstate New York. The festival will take place from July 11th-13th. We were lucky enough to make it up to Camp last year for our first Bisco experience, and to say “pleased” would be a bit of an understatement. With two massive main stages, setup side by side for rapid change-off between acts, and two dance tents, the festival has more than enough to offer; not to mention the late night,, silent disco DJ tent as well. This year the festival promises to return with just as much force, as well as plenty of new surprises, and definitely plenty of smiling faces. The lineup this year is even more eclectic and jaw-dropping as ever, boasting jam bands STS9, Lotus, Umphrey’s McGee, The Werks, Twiddle and Zoogma (and yes of course The Biscuits); a few very impressive indie acts including Passion PitAnimal Collective and Dan Deacon; and of course a premier list of DJs and electronic acts including Bassnectar, Flux Pavilion, Boys Noize, UZ, Aeroplane, Baauer, Break Science, Cherub, Crizzly, Eskmo, Gramatik, Heroes + Villains, KOAN Sound, Manic Focus, Paper Diamond, Toro Y Moi, Wick-It the Instigator and lots more. This year looks to be an amazing year to spend a wonderful weekend in upstate New York; hope you’ll be camping with us!

2013 Festival Preview: Hangout – (Almost) Full Lineup Announcement

Hangout 2013

Hangout - Website // Lineup // Buy Tickets

Next up in our festival preview for the Summer of 2013: Hangout Music Festival. It happens each year on the beautiful, sandy beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama. Like Wakarusa, this one tends to fly a bit under the radar to the majority of the public; which, in our opinion, is always a good thing. You’re looking a much more local crowd, and more importantly, a smaller, friendlier one. Plus no one can deny that wonderful southern hospitality. Undeniably the biggest surprise and big gun on the lineup this year is Tom Petty, but he’s followed by a formidable list of artists including Kings of Leon, Trey Anastasio (of Phish), The Shins, Bassnectar, The Roots, Slightly Stoopid, Passion Pit, Bloc Party, Jim James (of My Morning Jacket), Porter Robinson, Moe., Dirty Projectors, Best Coast, Twin Sister, The Werks and plenty more; plus one final headliner still to be announced. This one’s definitely a bit of a haul, especially for our Philadelphia readers; but it’s definitely got a great vibe and still worth knowing.

2013 Festival Preview: Sasquatch – Full Lineup Announcement!!

Sasquatch2013

I’m going to talk to you today about one of the most coveted festivals out there in my mind. It could be partially just because it takes place in beautiful upstate Washington, all the way on the other side of the county; but it almost might have to do in part with the absolutely jaw-dropping lineups the festival puts together each year. This year The Postal Service, The xx, Sigur Ros and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis sit amongst the highest names on the lineup, followed by a stunning list of supporting artists including Primus, Arctic Monkeys, Cake, Azealia Banks, Bloc Party, Andrew Bird, Built to Spill, Shad, Japandroids, Baauer, Youth Lagoon, Baths, Radical Face, ODESZA, Holy Ghost!, Shout Out Louds, Matthew Dear, Surfer Blood, Lusine and plenty more. You can catch all these artists from May 24th-27th (that’s Memorial Day Weekend!). And thiis year promises to be as amazing as any other in the magnificent Gorge home to the Sasquatch Music Festival. We hope to make it there; and even if we can’t, maybe some of our followers will make the amazing journey!

2013 Festival Preview: Electric Forest – Full, Official Lineup Announcement!!

E Forest 2013

Last week in our festival preview we discussed one of the titans: Coachella. Well this week, we’ve got the lineup for another indisputably mighty name when it comes to the music festival world. Yes, I’m talking of course about Electric Forest, up in beautiful Rothbury, Michigan. The festival is put on each year by one of the oldest (and easily most classic) jam bands in the game: The String Cheese Incident. If you don’t know about these guys- especially if you enjoy jam music- you need to get out to a show; and The Forest is the perfect opportunity, offering a show from the Boulder, Colorado group all three nights of the festival. Not to mention an incredible supporting lineup, including Pretty Lights, Passion Pit, Knife Party, Lotus, Beats Antique, A-Trak, Grimes, Holy Ghost!, EOTO, Kill the Noise, Emancipator, Baauer, NOISIA, Michal Menert, Suckerpunch, Up Until Now, Moon Hooch, Helicopter Showdown, and yes, plenty more (not to mention that wonderful side not of “plus more to be announced”). I know we’re hoping to make this our first trip to the forest, and we certainly hope to see some friendly faces there!

2013 Festival Preview: Coachella – Full Lineup Announcement!!

Coachella 2013

Definitely one of the most popular and demanded festivals in America, and probably in the world, is Coachella, which happens each year in beautiful Indio, California. In fact, the tickets are in such demand that even with festival now happening on two separate, consecutive weekends, tickets are still already sold out. It’s not difficult to see why with a lineup that boasts such acts as Blur, Modest Mouse, Lou Reed, Bassnectar, Modestep, Beach House, Infected Mushroom, Local Natives, The xx, The Postal Service, Grizzly Bear, New Order, Knife Party, Benny Benassi, Simian Mobile Disco, Major Lazer, Social Distortion,  Wu-Tang Clan, Pretty Lights, Excision, The Gaslight Anthem… and believe me, I could go on, that’s only scraping the surface. Of course you’ve got the whole lineup up there to check out; but if you didn’t manage to snag tickets to Coachella this year, have no fear, because it’s clear this festival will continue to go strong in coming years.

Made In America Lineup 2012 (1st Annual Festival IN PHILADELPHIA!!!)

Made In America Website // Lineup // Buy Tickets // Facebook Page

This is something that I caught my eye, and it’s worth mentioning for a few reasons. Let’s start with this, it’s hosted by Jay-Z; it’s tough to say how legitimate this is or what his actual “contribution” was, nonetheless, his name is on it and that’s something because he’s a pretty respectable guy in my eyes. Second, the lineup is truly fantastic and covers more than just EDM and hip-hop or anything too exclusive. From Pearl Jam to Savoy to Passion Pit to Skrillex to Miike Snow and back to, of course, Jay-Z, this is one heck of a diverse, and FREAKING AWESOME, lineup. And finally, this festival is HERE! IN PHILADELPHIA! Does it get better than that? Now, I apologize because the early bird tickets have already all been snagged up, but they’re still going for just $135, which isn’t bad considering the awesome weekend this festival promises. I’m looking forward to it!

Mad Decent Block Party Artist Announcement!!

Philadelphia’s most notable DJ at the moment is almost certainly Diplo, the great forefather of one of the most powerful EDM labels in America right now, Mad Decent. For years now, the label has been putting on amazing free block parties to showcase their beautiful sounds and just to bring people together in a blaze of amazing happiness. Originally just in Philadelphia, the block parties now span all across the US (and even a date in Toronto, Canada!) featuring other dates in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. So far only the lineup for Ontario has been announced, but be sure to check back frequently for updates!
Remember all shows are FREE, they’re ALL AGES and… well… they’re going to be just plain amazing so you don’t want to miss out. Funkadelphia will definitely be attending the Philadelphia date (and probably New York as well), so keep an eye out for us!
