Architekt – Detonator EP (FREE DL!!) [Glitch//Future Bass]

We have another treat for you today, this one coming from Philly native and Glitch Squad member, Architekt. This Glitch Squad release, the Detonator EP, is a 3-track EP featuring an original mix and two remixes, yet covers quite a wide range of the EDM subgenres. The Architekt’s original mix has that heavy, glitched out sound that we have come to love so much, and fellow Philly natives, The Nineties, take a different approach, giving the song a great Drum and Bass/Drumstep vibe that’s sure to pull you out of your seat to start raging. Finally, the 3rd track by Atlas gives a nice change of pace for all of our house/trance fans, with a smooth progressive house remix! The EP is available on Glitch Squad’s Bandcamp with the option to name your own price. While it’s always nice to pick up some free tunes, be sure to support the artists when you get the chance! We’ve seen incredible things happen to the local scene here in Philly over the past few years, so lets continue to contribute by using some of that newly acquired Christmas money to buy some killer tunes that are well worth it!

Spenca is a name that many of you may not be familiar with, but that is about to change. I’m really excited about this post for a couple reasons: 1) Because this track is just straight filthy, and 2) because this young producer hails from my hometown, Dallas, Texas. He just entered his Freshman year at Duke University, and already has made quite a name for himself having support from some of the best known DJs out there such as Rusko and Avicii, and even performed at this year’s Identity Festival in Dallas! This track is over a year old, and if you’ve seen Rusko in the past year, it’s very likely you’ve heard it. But today, Spenca was feeling generous and put it out for FREE! It features a very smooth intro over a hilarious sample from a viral video I’m sure we’ve all heard, and has an awesome drop which even reminds me a bit of Rusko. Pick up this free track below, and be sure to keep an eye out for Spenca, because he is coming up fast!

This weekend, Funkadelphia is off to Four Quarters Farm, Pennsylvania for the annual Big Dub Candy Mountain Festival, hosted by B.A.D.A.S.S. Raves (also on Facebook). The four-day festival boasts an incredible lineup of 50 electronic artists, ranging from dubstep, to electro house, to trip-hop, to drum & bass, to trap, and everything in between. Not only does the lineup boast some impressive headliners- including Vaski, Blockhead, NiT GriT and Lazy Rich- but it also showcases some of the areas most impressive up and coming producers and DJ’s, such as Fractal, Sugarpill, Gladkill, Freddy Todd, RSK,  Eric Evasion, Bassdread, and more!!

Made In America Lineup 2012 (1st Annual Festival IN PHILADELPHIA!!!)

This is something that I caught my eye, and it’s worth mentioning for a few reasons. Let’s start with this, it’s hosted by Jay-Z; it’s tough to say how legitimate this is or what his actual “contribution” was, nonetheless, his name is on it and that’s something because he’s a pretty respectable guy in my eyes. Second, the lineup is truly fantastic and covers more than just EDM and hip-hop or anything too exclusive. From Pearl Jam to Savoy to Passion Pit to Skrillex to Miike Snow and back to, of course, Jay-Z, this is one heck of a diverse, and FREAKING AWESOME, lineup. And finally, this festival is HERE! IN PHILADELPHIA! Does it get better than that? Now, I apologize because the early bird tickets have already all been snagged up, but they’re still going for just $135, which isn’t bad considering the awesome weekend this festival promises. I’m looking forward to it!

Mad Decent Block Party Artist Announcement!!

Philadelphia’s most notable DJ at the moment is almost certainly Diplo, the great forefather of one of the most powerful EDM labels in America right now, Mad Decent. For years now, the label has been putting on amazing free block parties to showcase their beautiful sounds and just to bring people together in a blaze of amazing happiness. Originally just in Philadelphia, the block parties now span all across the US (and even a date in Toronto, Canada!) featuring other dates in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. So far only the lineup for Ontario has been announced, but be sure to check back frequently for updates!
Remember all shows are FREE, they’re ALL AGES and… well… they’re going to be just plain amazing so you don’t want to miss out. Funkadelphia will definitely be attending the Philadelphia date (and probably New York as well), so keep an eye out for us!

If you’ve ever seen Steve Aoki live then  you know that this dude likes to party. He’s got to be one of the most energetic producers I’ve ever seen in a live setting, up there with Rusko as well. So anyone that knows how to throw a great party has a lot of friends, and that’s one thing that is definitely true of Steve Aoki. So it’s no surprise that 13 amazing artists, including Alvin Risk, Tommy Trash, Laidback Luke, Lucky Date, Dillon Francis, Mustard Pimp and Bassnectar, would all want to contribute to this amazing release: the Wonderland Remixes. There are just too many fresh tracks on this album, you gotta listen to it all. The album features house, dubstep and moombahton among other EDM genres and hybrids. This album is wild, get it while it’s hot!! Enjoy!

So I typically don’t post that much house, but every once and while I like to slip something other than dubstep in here :) Anyway, I haven’t heard much from Promise Land, and I was slightly confused when I saw this was a remix of a Florence + The Machine track, an artist I would imagine is rather hard to mix into an EDM track. Well, Promise Land show some really great talent on this remix, and they showed me that a Florence + The Machine house remix can actually be done very, very well. So props to these guys, I’m actually really diggin’ this one. Give it a spin!

Robotic Pirate Monkey – Colors In Disguise: Remixed [Full FREE Remix Album]

So if you aren’t familiar with Robotic Pirate Monkey, then let me give you a little background. The group is composed of three members from Boulder, CO and their music spans the lengths of dubstep, glitch-hop and just general bass. Their debut album, Disturbing Pleasant Streets, was absolutely incredible, since following it with Jungle Tales Vol. 1, the Sidetracked EP, and finally the original of this album, Colors in Disguise. Now they’ve given some other artists the opportunity to play around with the glitched out, bassy tracks on Colors in Disguise, and they’ve come out with this: Colors in Disguise: Remixed. The album features the likes of CRNKN, TYR, Cry Wolf, Rodway and Lazerdisk Party Sex among others. And you know what the absolute best part of this album is? It’s ENTIRELY FREE!! So grab it up, give it a listen, and give your allegiance to the Robotic Pirate Monkey!

Well his brand new, debut EP came out today, and in celebration, there’s a huge party goin’ on!! [By the way, we have a huge exclusive interview with Jack Deezl about his new EP coming out tomorrow, so be sure to check back for that!!] Anyway, the party’s presented by Drunk’n Antics and is called the Party on Diamond II and features Jack Deezl atop a lineup of other names featuring DJ Desu, DJ Dayo, Scraps Magee and yes, even more DJ’s. It all kicks off tonight at 10 PM too, so you know it’s gonna be goin’ late. Jack Deezl will also be sellin’ hard copies of his new Unrest EP at the party!!
