Phrenik & Kezwik feat. PLS DNT STP – “Ready for Impact” + Artist Spotlight!! (FREE DLs!!) [Dubstep//Grime]

Phrenik and Kezwik are two California producers that I’m a little embarrassed to say I was unfamiliar with up until recently. The reason being of course that these guys can both seriously serve up the filth. So what brought them to my attention was that Phrenik just recently released his new The Impact EP on Beatport, which features a collaborative track with Kezwik and Philadelphia’s own PLS DNT STP. Now, like I said, I hadn’t heard of Phrenik before this, but after one listen of “Ready for Impact”, I was hooked and I knew I had to look into this producer more. So I thought I’d share the rest of his new EP with you, as well as another tight track called “Light It Up” from a while back, which you can grab up for FREE below!! Enjoy!

Spenca – “Do It Live (Ft. Synclan)” + Artist Spotlight (3 FREE DLs!!) [Dubstep]

Spenca is a name that many of you may not be familiar with, but that is about to change. I’m really excited about this post for a couple reasons: 1) Because this track is just straight filthy, and 2) because this young producer hails from my hometown, Dallas, Texas. He just entered his Freshman year at Duke University, and already has made quite a name for himself having support from some of the best known DJs out there such as Rusko and Avicii, and even performed at this year’s Identity Festival in Dallas! This track is over a year old, and if you’ve seen Rusko in the past year, it’s very likely you’ve heard it. But today, Spenca was feeling generous and put it out for FREE! It features a very smooth intro over a hilarious sample from a viral video I’m sure we’ve all heard, and has an awesome drop which even reminds me a bit of Rusko. Pick up this free track below, and be sure to keep an eye out for Spenca, because he is coming up fast!

Stephan Jacobs – “Wander Slow” (NEW TRACK!) + Artist Spotlight [Dubstep//Glitch-Hop]

I really hope this guy gets to come back to Philly sometime in the near future so we can do him up proper. See, we’ve been following Stephan Jacobs for quite, quiiiiite some time now. We posted “Rubber Bands”, a track he did with fellow Colorado producer, Jantsen (you may know him for “Sultan of Swing”); but that was not the beginning of our infatuation with his music. See, he effectively combines the elements of dubstep and glitch-hop in a way that I don’t see any other producers really doing so. This new track “Wander Slow” is a good example, but I’m going to throw in a few extra to further exhibit this.

Now, I say all this because he was actually here of Identity Fest, and I bet a large majority of people didn’t even know. It’s not really your fault, as Identity put Stephan on the first time slot of the day (2:00-2:40PM). Now, while he threw down and did his set in full action, I still feel we (and he) were robbed of a proper Stephan Jacobs performance, which would require a packed out venue and probably wouldn’t be at 2 in the afternoon. Anyway, we’ve lined up a slew of dirty Stephan Jacobs tunes just for you guys, so get to it!!

Synchronice – “Cut Throat (MitiS Remix)” + Artist Spotlight Bonus Tracks [Dubstep//Grime]

This is actually the first post we’ve done on local producer MitiS, and admittedly this one’s long overdue. I’m glad he dropped this new track today because it was just the excuse I needed to bring this Philadelphia producer’s filth to your ears (if you weren’t already aware of him). He just played the Reid Speed show a little more than a week ago, and he’ll also be throwing down with KDrew on Friday, August 10th. MitiS’ sound is definitely heavy; there’s no way around that fact. But we love heavy, and MitiS knows how to deliver well. This guy’s really on top of his game, and this new remix just made my speakers implode, so I’m going to let to you guys listen while I go to Best Buy. Enjoy!

Yeah, we’re not done yet. Like I said, this post is long, long overdue. I’m also putting forth his Influential Past EP. Primarily because I want to highlight to the album’s opening track: “Parting”. The track hits with a wall of bass that somewhat reminds me of Gemini‘s “Elevate”, yet MitiS clearly has a unique grasp on the concept and has added in some delightful synths and keys dancing around in the background. “Parting” is definitely an appropriate title for this track; go at it!

Artist Spotlight: Sound Remedy [3 FREE DL's!]

I heard of this guy three of his songs ago, which, according to his Soundcloud, is “about 1 month ago” now. I have to say I’m kind of embarrassed because our site is all about bringing you the newest music fastest, but we really slept on this guy. I say this because I think Sound Remedy is really on to something with his sound; a much more ambient and musical dubstep than we’re hearing from artists these days. There’s been a lot of focus on the “grime” and “filth” in the dubstep scene lately. Now, here at Funkadelphia, we LOVE our grime; but it’s also really awesome to hear an artist take dubstep in a good direction with gorgeous composition and overall just beautiful production. Sound Remedy is one of the dubstep artists that the world needs more of. I’m just going to share the crap out of his music and I’m being dead serious when I say you’re completing missing out if you don’t listen to each and every one of these.

Coolio – “Gangster’s Paradise (Candyland OG Remix)” + Artist Spotlight [3 FREE TRACKS!!]

Damn, it’s a good Monday morning. I just woke up and my e-mail is already loaded up with new music. I’d like to kick off your morning the same way I kicked off mine; with this remix of Coolio‘s famous hip-hop track, “Gangster’s Paradise”. The track is remixed Candyland, an up and coming duo from Santa Barbara, California; and when I say “up and coming” in these guys case, I mean they are making a ton of noise lately. I decided to turn this post into a full on Artist Spotlight for that exact reason. Originally focused on dubstep, the duo has been playing around with the trap sound as of late. This new track is indeed a trap track, as well as another one I’m going to share, which you may have already heard: their remix of Darude‘s trance anthem, “Sandstorm”. Finally, I want to throw in a good old dubstep track from them as well, to show how wobbly they used to get. I’m adding on a grimy, grimy remix of Rick Ross‘ “Hustlin’”. Best part is, all these tracks are FREE!! Show Candyland some love!

Artist Spotlight: Flume

Alright, let’s side step a little from the typical EDM scene and talk about a really cool artist doing work in the indie electronic scene. Flume is an Australia producer that’s really been doing a lot of cool things. His style reminds me a lot of many of the Ghostly International artists, such as Shigeto, Gold PandaTycho or even Mux Mool. If you enjoy the smooth sounds of some nice downtempo, glitched out music, or just some chill beats, Flume is definitely an artist to keep your eyes on.

The first track in his newest, it’s a remix of Ta-Ku‘s track “Higher” and features more of a hip-hop or just beat style. In addition to this new remix though, we’ve also decided to include his remix of “Zimbabwe” by New Navy. This second remix features a more ambient and downtempo sound; if you get the speakers way up it’s actually got a really deep bass like a lot of older dubstep tracks. Finally, we just had to throw in his debut four-track, self-titled Flume EP. Definitely my favorite track from the EP would have to be “Sleepless”. This is where we first heard of Flume, and thinking back it’s probably been almost a year. It’s been too long since I’ve been on Flume’s page, and I’m glad this new remix brought me back. This is definitely a guy to keep your eyes out for in the future. Enjoy!

Artist Spotlight – Ecklipze

I haven’t heard much from this small, upcoming Canadian producer yet. But don’t let that fool you; just like the many Canadian producers to precede him (Zeds Dead, Excision, Datsik, deadmau5) Ecklipze has shown that he isn’t messing around. I think the biggest attention grabbers about him is his production, which features a heavy glitchy sound. Most of his songs build up to a nice heavy drop but then drop down into this really deep, glitchy bass sound. Right now, we’ve only got these four tracks from the Canadian producer, but he’s definitely someone we’ll be hearing more from in the future. All these tracks are definitley quality, but I think I’m going to highlight “Walk Away” and “Swaggasaurus Rex”. Although, I’m really going to have to emphasize that I think you should give each and everyone of these tracks a listen. Oh, yeah, and he’s got this new album called Movement in the works too, so that’s something to definitely keep your eyes peeled for. Enjoy!

Artist Spotlight – The M Machine (+ New EP Release!)

The M Machine is, I believe, the newest addition to Skrillex’s label, OWSLA (among other names such as Alvin Risk, Zedd, Dillon Francis, KOAN Sound and Kill the Noise). I just heard of them a couple months ago, and to be honest I sort of brushed them off. But then came the OWSLA Free Treats Vol. 2 compilation, and with it a new The M Machine track called “No Fun Intended” (I’ve included it as a bonus below). After listening to that track, the San Francisco trio called The M Machine had my full attention. Their sound is just an extremely fresh take on the EDM scene; I personally wouldn’t know how to classify it except for some offshoot of electro house I suppose. Either way, their music is really upbeat and exciting, and yes, of course, it’s got that intensity you expect from an OWSLA artist. Now today, the group released their new Metropolis Pt. 1 EP, which features 6 brand new tracks. I’m going to say right now, this EP is freaking awesome. It features glitch sounds, house beats, a bit of dubstep and moombah feel at times and just overall pandamonium. I really recommend “Deep Search”, I’m loving it right now. Enjoy!

Artist Spotlight – Eptic

Alright, I think I’m going to have to do two artist spotlights, either both today or one today and one tomorrow. They’re both going to be dubstep, but they both are coming at a very necessary time, and I’ll be driving you up the wall with sick tunes so don’t worry about it.

The first is this guy, Eptic. He’s a Belgium producer who brings us the crunchiest of dubstep. I first got hooked on this guy when I heard his track “Fools”, but he just hasn’t let me down since. From what I can tell, he’s kept himself pretty reclused to the underground UK scene, because I never see him touring or playing any festivals, and he definitely has been to the US very few times if at all. So anyway, he also released his debut self-titled Eptic EP back in October of 2011, which was full of sick tracks, my favorite of which was definitely “Stick Up”. So I’ve covered a good amount, but why do I feel it’s necessary to do this post now? Right now? Well, that would be because Eptic just released this new remix to Technotronic‘s “Pump Up the Jam”, mentioning that it would be available for download April 30th. So check out some Eptic!
