2013 Festival Preview: Coachella – Full Lineup Announcement!!

Coachella 2013

Definitely one of the most popular and demanded festivals in America, and probably in the world, is Coachella, which happens each year in beautiful Indio, California. In fact, the tickets are in such demand that even with festival now happening on two separate, consecutive weekends, tickets are still already sold out. It’s not difficult to see why with a lineup that boasts such acts as Blur, Modest Mouse, Lou Reed, Bassnectar, Modestep, Beach House, Infected Mushroom, Local Natives, The xx, The Postal Service, Grizzly Bear, New Order, Knife Party, Benny Benassi, Simian Mobile Disco, Major Lazer, Social Distortion,  Wu-Tang Clan, Pretty Lights, Excision, The Gaslight Anthem… and believe me, I could go on, that’s only scraping the surface. Of course you’ve got the whole lineup up there to check out; but if you didn’t manage to snag tickets to Coachella this year, have no fear, because it’s clear this festival will continue to go strong in coming years.

Album Review: Run DMT – Union of Opposites (FREE DL!!) [Dubstep//Grime]

Run DMT - Union of Opposites

Alright this one is definitely a bit late admittedly, but I still can’t deny it from seeing the light of day here on Funkadelphia because it’s simply too freaking amazing. Run DMT has been on the forefront of the bass music scene for quite sometime now; he’s a clear veteran. And he’s torn up Philadelphia at least twice now, both this year at The Blockley and SoundGarden Hall. Over the passed month or so, the Texas producer has been releasing the tracks to his new Union of Opposites album (which you can scoop TOTALLY FREE!!) one by one through his soundcloud. And dead seriously, everytime he released a new track, it left my jaw a bit closer to the floor at the drop. This album is ABSOLUTELY KILLER!! Get at it!!

Artifakts – Turnt Up (Free DL!) [Trap//Bass]

Turnt Up

A few weeks ago we posted a nice soulful, funky mix from Wisconsin producer Artifakts, and today he’s giving us a great original for FREE!! Artifakts has already showed us he knows what he’s doing when it comes to the funky/soulful music we love so much, but this time he tried taking on trap and absolutely killed it! It’s’ certainly not what I was expecting when I saw he had just released a new song, but just like every Artifakts tune, I can’t get enough of it! And if this is your first time hearing Artifakts we’ve included a bonus Electro Soul track, also for FREE DOWNLOAD! Now turn up those speakers and enjoy!!

Flux Pavilion – Blow the Roof EP [Dubstep//Bass]

Flux - Blow the Roof EP

Flux Pavilion always leaves th earth shaking with his bass-loaded drops; and his new release, the Blow the Roof EP is certainly no exception. Besides the fact that Flux is an absolute OG when it comes to the dubstep world, he also remains one of the most consistently hard-working and devoted producers in the game. This EP certainly displays that Flux Pavilion signature sound we’ve all come to love, but there’s also a large amount of new sounds, clear new influences, and new experimentation. That collab with Childish Gambino is absolutely monstrous! Enjoy!!

Album Review: Emancipator: Dusk to Dawn [Downtempo//Beats]

Emancipator - Dusk to Dawn

The day is finally here, and I really couldn’t be more pleased. Emancipator has had an enormous impact on the downtempo music world, and their new album Dusk to Dawn, out today, continues their string of (for lack of a better world) beautiful releases. It’s rather difficult to classify the Oregon two-piece act within a single genre; “downtempo” doesn’t even begin to capture the smooth beating rhythms, accompanied by almost mesmerizing guitar, violin and harp lines, among other live instrumentation. Dusk to Dawn will creep into your soul and take you on a journey through beautiful landscapes; it will take you to the stony beaches of a misty lake, to the top of snow-capped mountains, and through lush valleys. And if the album isn’t enough, Emancipator will be playing HERE in Philadelphia, this Thursday at The Trocadero Theatre! But for now, just enjoy this new, incredible release from Emancipator.

Rico Tubbs & Will Power – Temple of Doom EP [Moombahton//Trap]

Rico Tubbs & Will Power - Temple of Doom EP

Definitely one of the mightiest labels out their, DOOM Musicbrainchild of Figure- just put out their latest release. It’s a three track EP featuring both Rico Tubbs and Will Power. All three tracks experiment with mixing and crossing over between the moombahton and trap genres. Although, as you would most likely expect from a monstrous label such as DOOM Music, the bass on this release is nice and dirty; putting these tracks more in the “moombahcore” category than straight moombahton. Nonetheless, I’m loving this whole thing, and you guys will too; get to it!!

Stephan Jacobs & Metaphase – Floss Angeles EP [Dubstep//Glitch-Hop]

Stephan Jacobs - Floss Angeles EP

Here’s an interesting collaboration, and I guess someone else thought so too, because Excision‘s monster label, Rottun Records picked it up for the Beatport release. Two LA producers, Stephan Jacobs and Metaphase have teamed up to bring you the brand new, two-track Floss Angeles EP. Both these tracks are grimy, and include plenty of the wobbles we’ve come to love from both these artists, but both tracks also wander more along the lines of glitch-hop than straight dubstep. I’ll let you guys be the judge. Enjoy!!

Album Review: Datsik – Cold Blooded Pt. 1 EP [Dubstep//Grime]

Datsik - Cold Blooded EP

So today we posted the new track from Firepower Records artist GetterBut now we have something from the man himself, owner and operator of Firepower: Datsik. Troy Beetles released his new 7-track Cold Blooded EP today through Beatport and iTunes. It features the new collaboration track with Excision that I’m sure many of you have heard by now: ”Vindicate”. But that’s just one track among six other bass-heavy, earth-shaking tunes on the album. If you caught Datsik on his Firepower Tour, you probably heard a couple of these tunes; but hot damn did he deliver on this one. This EP certainly surpasses Vitamin D in my opinion as a release from the Canadian producer. It features such a wide spread of styles: “Cold Blooded” comes out of the gate, hands swinging and kicking out some super heavy drumstep; then track 2, “Automatik” takes it back to the sounds of early Datsik, with a nice crisp, clean slow beat and really dope wobbles; and then, out of no where, with “Juicebox”, Datsik gets all funky on us, and it’s absolutely incredible. I’ll give you guys the opportunity to explore the rest of the EP; and believe me, it’s worth it!
