Knife Party/Red Tails

Have you noticed the trailer for the movie “Red Tails”? Maybe you’ve noticed that crazy, obnoxious music in the background?

That would be Knife Party. Knife Party is an Australian duo made up of Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen. Rob Swire sound familiar? Possibly because he is the lead of the Australian drum&bass group Pendulum, or maybe because of his appearance on deadmau5′s famous track “Ghosts n’ Stuff”. Either way, you should check out Knife Party if you haven’t already. They’ve already been in the States a few times, and if I’m correct, they’re here now, or will be later in the Spring.

What’s the best part about Knife Party? Well, that’s debatable, but if you ask me, it’s the fact that they dropped their debut EP for free download… SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!? DOWNLOAD! DOWNLOAD NOW!

Oh, and here’s the song from the “Red Tails” trailer:

Nostalgia – The Outlaster LP

Nostalgia is a dubstep producer hailing from Minnesota. The first I head of him was his remix of “Knights of Cydonia” by Muse (listed below).

Well, just recently, Nostalgia dropped a new collaborative album with producer Aami titled “The Outlaster LP”.

Head over to beatport and buy the album if you so are diggin’ it. BUY ALBUM

Check Out This Tour – M83

Sooooooooo… you’ve probably heard of M83 by now (>_> *glare*).

Because the band has begun to rise to prominence (and also because we’ve just been posting dubstep tours so far) I feel I should post M83′s tour schedule.

Sorry this is a bit difficult to read, but it was the best copy of the North American schedule I could find (and the most complete).

I don’t have a problem with what M83 is doing at this point, but I think it’s important to know what they have done in the past as well. I encourage you to check out the compiled playlist I have below, because M83 is certainly a band that has evolved over the years. Now, like I said, this isn’t a bad thing, but I feel that their recent spike in popularity could be attributed to this. My point… M83 has a lot of good music and I fear that it could be lost in the shuffle of people screaming over there new album. So, in addition to these tour dates, I have compiled a playlist of what I feel to be some of their best songs from past albums. For your listening pleasure, check them out!

Then go ahead and buy your tickets for your local M83 and get ready for one hell of a show.

Feed Me & Gemini – Whiskers

New collaborative track from Feed Me and Gemini. If you haven’t heard of either of these two fellows, they’re both primarily dubstep (Feed Me likes to mess around in some other areas) producers, both out of the UK. This new track whomps pretty hard, and it’s got a bit of a unique drop goin’ on. It’s definitely a track that you can tell Feed Me had to do with.

Feed Me is due to drop his new EP, “Feed Me to the Stars” on February 6th.

Additionally, Gemini is currently on tour and will be playing with fellow producer KOAN Sound during his stop to Philly. So CHECK IT OUT!

Oh… and…Enjoy!

Check Out This Tour – Big Gigantic: The Nocturnal Tour

So a little background here: Colorado is basically just a breeding ground for the electronic music industry and the beautiful mountain state seems to be pumping out artists by the handful. You are probably aware of many of these, including Pretty Lights & Paper Diamond. Well, if you didn’t know, Big Gigantic is also on that list.

Now what’s really unique about Big Gigantic is that they are a duo consisting of a DJ (no real surprise there), but ALSO, a saxophonist. This is what helps Big Gigantic create a really awesome and interesting sound. The duo have been around for a while, but they’re really starting to make a name for themselves. Now I already have my ticket for this show, but you should be sure to pick one up too cause this is gonna be one hell of a tour.

Here in Philadelphia we’ll be getting to see the likes of Adventure Club, a duo out of Canada that have really been lighting up the dubstep scene as of late too. Now, that’s not to take away from the other artists here, because all the ranks Big Gigantic have enlisted for this tour are frankly just amazing.

I should probably also point out that all of Big Gigantic’s music is FREE for download over at their website. This includes their recent new album, “Nocturnal”. This album is absolutely freaking ridiculous. It’s awesome.

Here’s a preview for all y’all. Be sure to check out “Rise & Shine”, “Nocturnal”, “It’s Goin’ Down” and “All Nighter”.

Download Here (scroll down for their first album “The World Is Yours” as well as their other non-album singles).

Check Out This Tour – Skream&Benga

Here at Funkadelphia we want to do more than just encourage you to expand your musical taste and knowledge… we’re just as much about the experience.

So, we’ve decided to keep you updated with the many opportunities that come and will continue to come your way (let’s face it… it’s a beautiful world we live in!)

Proudly, we present you with the “Check Out This Tour!” Series, starting with dubstep pioneers and powerhouses Skream & Benga.

The duo will be embarking on a US Tour (including an appearance at the massive Ultra Music Festival in Miami, FL)

About the Artist(s):

Skream – Producer out of London, Skream is often credited with being one of the original dubsteppers. His music has greatly influenced the genre and helped in it’s evolution. If you’re not a big fan of the huge wobbles (and basic just overall pandamonium) in a lot of dubstep, Skream might be an artist you want to check out. With a much more stable and consistent sound, Skream certainly does dubstep his own way.

Skream – “Phat Head”

Benga – Also out of London, Benga was no less involved in the beginnings of dubstep than Skream was. The duo are frequent collaborators and in fact, they recently released a free EP on the Scion A/V series. The two are also part of the dubstep supergroup Magnetic Man (Skream, Benga, Artwork) and the trio will also be appearing at Ultra, along with Artwork showing up on many of the duo’s other US tour dates.

Wick-It the Instigator – “Grindhouse Basterds” (Full Album)

Small time producer from Tennessee, Wick-It the Instigator first caught my attention sometime last year with a really unique sound. Wick-It goes hard.

So naturally, it was a no-brainer when he dropped this mixtape/album just after the New Year. Grindhouse Basterds is completely refreshing for the dubstep world; it has everything from hip-hop collaborations, to near hip-hop instrumentals, to just plain filthy wobbles and drops.

I’ve included another Wick-It personal favorite for your listening pleasure (along with the full album of course)… if you like, be sure to show Wick-It some support: pick up his new album and head over to his Facebook or Soundcloud.

Bassnectar – Divergent Spectrum Remixes

So for the electronic music world, Bassnectar is a huge name, and it’s a name that’s been around for a while now.
Bassnectar was my first experience with dubstep, and I have to say, he started me off on the right foot.

With an upcoming US tour in the Spring, Lorin Ashton (Bassnectar) is getting himself ready. Just yesterday he dropped an EP of remixes to his Summer 2011 album Divergent Spectrum.

The EP includes remixes from notable artists Steve Aoki and The Glitch Mob among others, as well as an original release from Bassnectar, “Colorstorm”.

You can pick up the EP over at Bassnectar’s site, and maybe even pick up some of his other music and support this amazing artist.

DL: Divergent Spectrum Remixes EP

Not to mention, there’s talk of Bassnecar’s appearance in Philly on 4/20.
On his blog he released this clue for his 4/20 show: “Not far from Bass Island. MD, DE, NJ will be close to hand. Friends in MA + CT may have further to travel”.
Sounds like Philly to me.
